As compact as a classic guitar is the p.a.bass loud enough to be the bass part for all unamplified bands. Nevertheless there is an output too.

This pseudo acoustic bass guitar is equipped with speaker, amp and batteries and is available in different colours. Because it is a short scale bass (long scale on request) the p.a.bass is very compact (fitting in classic guitar gigbag).
